Apply for a Federal Tax ID Number (Employee Identification Number or EIN). This number is required to open a checking account. CAUTION: If your chapter is several years old and/or previously had a checking account you may already have an EIN. Before completing the application, you should call the IRS to inquire. The process for locating a misplaced EIN is also available through the link.
