FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. How should presentation boards be displayed?
    Your 20"x20" submission boards can be oriented in a square shape as in diagram A or in a row as shown in diagram B. You can have up to and including 4 presentation boards.

  2. How do I make sure that my presentation boards are viewed correctly? 
    Make sure that your boards are labeled on the BACK of the boards (1 of 4, 2 of 4, etc.)  You can also create a small diagram on the back of the boards to illustrate how the boards should be set up (as in diagram A or diagram B.)

  3. Can images or writing continue from presentation board to another?
    Yes, if you follow the presentation alignment presented in diagram A or B.

  4. If one of the members of our team is an AIAS member, do we need to pay the registration fee?
    No, if one or more members of a team is a member of the AIAS, the team does not need to pay the $15 registration fee.

  5. Can I submit more than one competition entry?
    Yes, you can submit as many entries as you’d like/have time to complete.

  6. If I’m not a member of the AIAS and I would like to submit more than one project, do I pay a submission fee for each project?
    Yes, if you are NOT a member of the AIAS and you’d like to submit more than one competition entry, you must submit a registration fee for each entry.

  7. I don’t know my AIAS membership #, how can I get this?
    You can contact the AIAS office at 202.626.7472 or membership@aias.org to get your membership #.

  8. Is the submission deadline a postmark deadline? 
    Yes, the submission deadline is a postmark deadline, meaning your project needs to be mailed by that deadline, not received in the AIAS office by that date.

  9. Should my name and school appear on my presentation boards? 
    NO! You should not have your name or school listed on the front of your presentation board.  The jury should not know who you are or what school you are from.  Please note that you should be careful if you have images of people on your presentation boards. They shouldn’t be wearing a college sweatshirt or anything that indicates where the project is from.

  10. If I’m graduating soon, can I still participate in the competition?
    If you are in school at the time the competition is announced, you are eligible to compete in the competition, even if the competition deadline is after you have graduated. For this competition, if you were in school during the spring 2008 semester, you are eligible to compete.

  11. If I’m currently out of school, can I still participate in the competition?
    To be eligible to compete in the competition, you must be a full or part-time student at sometime during the competition period.

  12. Do I need to have a faculty advisor for the competition?
    No, the registration form asks for faculty advisor information that you can fill out if you have a facutly advisor for the project. This is not a requirement to enter the competition.
