FORUM 2010 Recap
Over New Years, over 950 architecture students and professionals gathered in Toronto, Canada to experience FORUM 2010. Hosted by AIAS Ryerson University, these attendees experienced the 55th annual conference of the AIAS and were a part of the largest FORUM attendance since 2006. The host chapter organized an amazing array of workshops, seminars and tours focused around the theme of Action/Reaction. What are the choices we are making today and how will they impact the lives, and profession, we have in the future?
We heard from four keynote speakers, one each night at the general business session.James Timberlake of KieranTimberlake spoke about the importance of understanding technology and research as it relates to design. Kiel Moe discussed sustainability and his research into thermally active surfaces. On New Years Eve, we heard from Philip Beesley about responsive architecture. Finally, David Zach, futurist and newly appointed public director to the AIA Board, engaged the audience with thought provoking questions about the future of design.
Additionally, we had 20 incredible leaders step up to run for national office and serve this organization. Thank you to all of the candidates for all of your hard work and dedication to the AIAS. Six of those individuals were chosen by the Council of Presidents to serve them as the 2011-2012 Board of Directors. The Council of Presidents also decided the host chapter of FORUM 2012: Savannah College of Art and Design. Congratulations!
Thank you all who attended this amazing conference. It was truly a turning point for the organization. We hope that you bring the energy and excitement you brought to Toronto back to your chapters. We look forward to seeing you all in Pheonix, AZ for FORUM 2011!
