AIAS Programs

The AIAS is committed to serving our communities and the architecture profession and educational system. Through our advocacy efforts and community service initiatives, we aim to meet the goals of our mission statement. On this page you can find out more about our activities and programs.

Competitions

The AIAS supports and sponsors design competitions to contribute to the education of all students. Competitions present unique opportunities to investigate and utilize building materials and design techniques from different perspectives or those that the student might not be familiar with already. Furthermore, participants compete among students from a broad range of programs and are evaluated by diverse juries of experts. Competitions can also assist instructors with developing a repertoire of design challenges to use in studio courses. Learn more about AIAS Competitions here.

Freedom by design

Freedom by Design™, the AIAS community service program, utilizes the talents of architecture students to radically impact the lives of people in their community through modest design and construction solutions. Vital modifications are made to enhance the homes of low-income and disabled individuals by addressing their struggles with everyday tasks such as bathing, ascending stairs and opening doors. Our priority is improving the safety, comfort and dignity of the home’s occupants. Learn more about AIAS Freedom by Design here.

advocacy

A public policy is our official position on an issue of broad and lasting significance that relates to individuals and groups within and outside the membership of the AIAS. Our policies define the position of the AIAS on issues and establish the manner in which the AIAS conducts its relationships within the organization, with members and chapters, and with others including the members, chapters, schools, affiliated organizations, and the public. Learn more about AIAS Advocacy here.
