SUMMARY:[THRIVE] What I Wish I Knew: Starting Your Year Edition
DESCRIPTION:Webinar Description: \nJoin Graphisoft’s Catherine Cabezas and a panel of current architecture students as they share best practices and key insights on what it takes to have a successful year in architecture school. \nLearn from the pros as they divulge advice they wish they knew when they started the school year.  \nThis kick-off THRIVE webinar will equip you with the tools to navigate the profession while providing a safe space to ask all of your burning questions. Free and open to all. Don’t forget to share this opportunity with your peers! \nSpeakers:\nHost: Catherine Cabezas: Sales Manager\, Southeast + Mid Atlantic Associate AIA\, LEED AP BD+C Graphisoft North America Inc. \nAs the regional Sales Manager for GRAPHISOFT North America\, Catherine began her journey as an Architecture student at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). After obtaining her BFA in Architecture\, minor in Historic Preservation and her Masters in Architecture\, she made her journey to the nation’s capital. Right before she started\, she briefly summer interned at Fallingwater\, working on preserving Frank Lloyd Wright’s vellum drawings. She then began her Architecture career in the midst of an economic turndown for top large firms such as HDR\, Smithgroup\, and then continued to grow into smaller firms as Senior Designer and Project Manager on fun retail projects. She then made a career switch to sales and business development with the aspiration to help firms get the best out of their software. \n Register Now!

SUMMARY:2022 Spring South Quad Conference Bidding Presentations
DESCRIPTION:Each year\, regional conferences take place in the Midwest\, Northeast\, South\, and West Quads. These gatherings\, known as Quad Conferences\, are hosted by local chapters who have been selected to organize the event by their Quad. Themes vary based on the city\, local culture\, and topics of choice. \nNow for some big news… \nWhile these conferences will be held virtually to maintain safety and accessibility for our members\, for the first time in more than a year bidding chapters have the opportunity to propose a limited number of in-person events as well! In this way\, Spring 2022 Quad Conferences may serve as the AIAS’s first foray into hybrid programming. \nQuad Conferences are a terrific way to meet other students in your region\, learn about architecture (among other subjects!) outside of the classroom\, and have a lot of fun! \nJoin us for the 2022 Spring South Quad Conference Bidding Presentations on Saturday\, September 25\, 2021 from 4:00pm to 5:00pm Eastern Time. \n Zoom Event Link\n

SUMMARY:JEDITF Webinar: Challenging Homogeneous Architectural Education
DESCRIPTION:In the first webinar of our J.E.D.I. series\, the AIAS explores the history that has resulted in the prioritization of a white agenda throughout architectural education across universities in the United States. This webinar hopes to explore the homogenous makeup of architectural education through a panel discussion between students and other architecture professionals. Through this exploration we aim to create an anti-racist environment in schools and workplaces. These conversations aid in helping us become more inclusive and equitable architects\, designers\, planners\, and future built environment professionals. This webinar is also intended to create better understanding and communication about race within our design community of students\, alumni\, and working professionals.

DESCRIPTION:This Indigenous Heritage Month\, the AIAS J.E.D.I. Taskforce will host its second webinar to highlight the importance of Indigenous architecture\, which refers to the study and practice of architecture for and by Indigenous people. Indigenous people have a built tradition or aspire to translate or have their cultures translated in the built environment. SUMMARY:AIAS FORUM | CONVERGE
DESCRIPTION:The AIAS signature conference\, FORUM\, is the largest annual gathering of architecture students in the world. We are excited to announce that this year’s conference will be hosted virtually from Denver\, CO on January 6th – January 8th\, 2022. \nThe AIAS does so much amazing work\, but where does it all come together? What is the confluence of these efforts\, the thing that binds it all together? \nIt’s FORUM! \nEven within the AIAS\, the challenges of the last year have often seemed to separate and distance us from one another. In order to make change and rebuild something better than we had before\, in order to evolve\, we must come together. The city of Denver – the Mile High City – is the perfect metaphor. Here\, natural and manmade summits\, seemingly disparate and even opposed\, come together to create an extraordinary place. This is your call to action. This is where our ideas\, our demands\, our members and our movements converge. \n  \n Learn More!\nor \n Register Today!

SUMMARY:AIA Headquarters Renovation: Student Focus Group
DESCRIPTION:Join this great opportunity to hear from the design team at EHDD about the proposed renovation to the AIA headquarters (which also happens to be the AIAS headquarters!) in Washington\, DC! The design team wants to hear from students on how the AIA building needs to change to meet the needs and expectations of students and young professionals\, and are interested in translating ideas on how the AIA can evolve as an organization into ideas to evolve their building. Major focus of this renovation include bringing the AIA building into the 21st century both in terms of aesthetic and sustainability\, and to make it a space to more actively engage the architectural community and wider public ini advocacy efforts to better our built environment and society. Don’t miss out on being a part of this  step toward huge change for our organizations and profession!
