The AIAS is excited to announce recently implemented changes for all international AIAS members! As you know, the Finance Committee has worked tirelessly this year to address multiple charges, with a large focus on International Membership fees and the value of AIAS membership.
Here are the charges for the 2020-2021 Finance Committee:
- Work with the Executive Director to perform a financial review of the organization and support the yearly budget process.
- Work in collaboration with the Membership Committee and Council of Global Representatives to explore International Membership fees and membership benefits for all members to ensure that the value of AIAS membership aligns with the fee in each respective region.
- Educate chapters and members about best financial practices in an organization for both in person and virtual circumstances.
- Quantify cost implications for proposed resolutions.
Following reception of testimonials from members across the world, the AIAS Finance Committee and Board of Directors officially voted to eliminate Chapter Dues for all international chapters. This decision follows the Council of Presidents vote in favor of bylaw amendments and additions to restructure membership dues for international members and their respective chapters. The decision was made with reassessment of the purpose of Chapter Dues and in the interest of expanding our international chapter and member population.
In addition to the elimination of Chapter Dues, the Finance Committee and Board of Directors also worked to analyze the price of individual membership dues. The committee took into account input from various chapters, financial situations per region, and value conversions through exchange and inflation rates to determine the membership cost per chapter. This allows more flexibility for international students based on their geographic region. It also addresses the finance committee’s previous findings that as inflation rates change, the monetary value (USD) drastically changes, which varies the cost of membership in different locations.
