November 2025 Chapter Leader of the Month: Dixzell Mae A. Baculao
University of Nevada, Las VegasAIAS is proud to recognize Dixzell (Dixie) Mae A. Baculao from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as the November Chapter Leader of the Month for her exceptional leadership, commitment to mentorship, and dedication to creating meaningful opportunities for her peers.
Dixzell’s AIAS journey began during her first year at UNLV, where her passion for leadership grew through roles as Events Coordinator, Chapter President, and now Immediate Past President. Her inspiration to lead stems from her experience with the ACE Mentor Program in high school, where mentors guided and encouraged her to pursue a career in architecture. That experience shaped her mission within AIAS: to provide the same encouragement, guidance, and opportunities to fellow students.
During her presidency, Dixzell helped raise nearly $17,000 in sponsorships to support chapter operations and fund student travel to national conferences. She also revived the chapter’s mentorship program, connecting students with industry professionals throughout the academic year, and organized firm tours, portfolio workshops, and networking events that strengthened ties between students and the profession. Her chapter also celebrated student achievement through their annual Connection in Motion awards and gallery, and continued their signature event in collaboration with AIA Las Vegas and UNLV—showcasing work from high school students, university students, faculty, and professionals alike.
Internally, Dixzell worked to expand the board, strengthen leadership, and ensure the chapter operated with purpose, advocacy, and impact. Her collaborative and service-oriented approach helped sustain one of the most active and engaged chapters in the West Quad.
Dixzell was nominated by two peers who praised her dedication and leadership. Tristan Casco, current UNLV Chapter President, noted:
“Dixzell has shown incredible leadership during her time as chapter president at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Working alongside her, we hosted over 30 events and workshops that supported students in their architectural journey, connected more than 30 students with professionals through our mentorship program, and raised sponsorships that helped more than 25 students travel to AIAS conferences. Her professionalism and excellence are the reasons I’m proud to nominate her as Chapter Leader of the Month.”
Trevin Thompson, West Quad Director during her presidency, added:
“As the latest in a long line of fantastic chapter leaders from UNLV, Dixie has led with grace and determination. She guided a dedicated team to deliver engaging programs like their storied mentorship initiative and spotlight series, while strengthening connections with local firms to support chapter travel and events. Her leadership exemplifies the best of AIAS.”
Dixzell continues to stay involved with ACE Mentors, AIA, and local organizations that champion mentorship and professional development. Her passion for fostering growth and opportunity embodies the spirit of AIAS—uplifting others while advancing the future of architecture through leadership, service, and community.
