KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

Insider Tips for Getting the Most Out of A’18 in NYC.
In a little more than a week, we will be seeing you in New York, NY! We’ve compiled a list of reminders and tips so that YOU are prepared for the most awesome AIA Conference yet.

1. What to pack

  • Sketchbook
  • Pen/Pencils
  • Laptop + Charger
  • Business cards
  • Portfolio + Resume
  • Comfortable Footwear: A’18’s programming is spread out across multiple venues – plan ahead.
  • Dress Code: Smart Casual

2. Download the A’18 app

Download the A’18 app to manage your schedule, navigate the conference, and stay up-to-date on everything A’18 related.

3. Getting around NYC

Using public transportation is part of life in NYC. Make sure to check out the MTA’s interactive subway map.

Upon your arrival, we recommend purchasing a 7-day unlimited Metrocard ($32), available for self-serve at all MTA subway stations. Don’t be stuck at the station refilling cards! Get a weekly pass, to begin with, and glide through your multiple track trips.

4. Be social

The A’18 Facebook page is a great resource for important conference activities and fun. We want to hear about your experience as well! Share with us your favorite parts of A’18 through Instagram, Facebook, & Twitter.

Don’t forget to tag @aiasorg @aianational and use the following hashtags — #A18Con #architectureconference #architecturestudents

5. Participate in A’18 Day of Service

Make an impact during the A’18 Day of Service on Sat. June 23rd. You’ll be helping realize 6 community design projects across New York City, from an edible school garden to homeless shelters and more, building a brighter future for those in need.

6. Things you won’t want to miss…

  • Thursday 9pm-midnight: The Emerging Professionals Party at Stage48! There are tickets still available, but make sure to buy yours in advance, as the student rate of $20 goes to the standard price of $100 at the door!
  • Friday 3-5pm: AIAS National Vice President, Elizabeth Seidel will be participating on a panel discussion titled “EV 406: I Have My Degree… Now How Do I Find A Job?” at Parson – The New School.

7. Need a roommate?

If you’re looking for a roomie or have a bed to spare, please post a message on our A’18 Roommate Finder Message Board.

8. Stay hydrated and fed

With so much to do at A’18, it can be easy to forget to eat or drink. Don’t worry, we’ve found a list of 50 Cheap Eats Destinations in NYC.
