Did you know that the AIAS has a scholarship program specifically for funding your first Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®)? The Professional Advancement Support Scholarship (PASS) is intended to encourage young professionals to make a plan to move toward professional licensure, and begin on that path as soon as possible.

Each division of the Architect Registration Exam (ARE) costs $235, which can be a daunting endeavor for a recent graduate. The scholarship is available to alumni of the AIAS who aim to pass a division of the ARE® within one year of graduating. The scholarship will cover the full cost of that exam. The mission is to share diverse testers’ experiences so that young professionals can see preparing for and taking the ARE® as an attainable and relatable goal.

Take a peek at some reflections from our past PASS recipients on their experience below:

Adam Valone, Drexel University

“I am beyond ecstatic to have received this AIAS PASS Scholarship! The rising costs of the exam itself, study prep and materials, and taking time off work are all roadblocks for licensure candidates. Having one division paid for is extremely helpful in jumpstarting my examination. It’s one less thing to worry about as I embark on my next chapter of becoming an architect. I encourage anybody who is hesitant to start taking their exams to get creative, seek out opportunities, and think outside the box. You never know what may come your way! Thanks again for this opportunity and reward!”

Ashley Kopetzky, University of Oregon

“Through the PASS scholarship, which I was grateful enough to receive; provided an experience that I believe many emerging professionals experience. I have to pay how much for my tests when I already paid for my education!? Albeit, the cost to go through licensure is worth it, but comes truly as an expense. As one of the many architectural designers living in a city that has stepped foot in what is now labeled as the “housing crisis” — relieving that through a scholarship to peruse what we desire is a breath of fresh air. In the end, I did not pass, but that’s not the point, it’s that I was able to test, sit for them and experience more of why I want to be an architect. I am thankful for the experience and am continuing to choose licensure because of it.”

LOOKING AHEAD

The AIAS serves an important role as the sole student voice amongst the five architectural collaterals and your National Board of Directors recognizes that we have an obligation to inform our members of the importance of licensure and how that relates to their education. Given this imperative need, President Rosen will be embarking on the *6-in-6 Campaign* over the course of 6 weeks in January and February of 2019, within which she will be studying and taking all 6 ARE® 5.0 Examinations. In addition to highlighting replicable resources and strategies that AIAS members can utilize when taking their licensing exams, this campaign is also geared towards raising awareness of the existing PASS scholarship and raising additional funds for future PASS scholarships.

We encourage you to donate to the 6-in-6 Campaign Fundraiser below to help future Architects begin on their path toward professional licensure as soon as possible! Every donation counts and each donation of $235 will fully cover the cost of a recent AIAS alumni member’s first examination. To donate, please click the link below.
