Each month, the AIAS highlights the outstanding dedication and accomplishments of one of its members. The Chapter Leader of the Month can be a Chapter President or any member who has shown tremendous leadership.

 

   

August 2026 Chapter Leader of the Month: Lucy Martin

University of Michigan

The AIAS is proud to recognize Lucy Martin (she/her) from the University of Michigan as our August Chapter Leader of the Month, celebrating her growth as a student leader and her commitment to creating a welcoming, connected community for architecture students.

Now a junior pursuing her BS in Architecture with a minor in the Environment and a concentration in Sustainability, Lucy first joined the AIAS during her freshman year. Like many students beginning architecture school, she was still learning what licensure, accreditation, and professional practice looked like. What she found through her chapter was a community that helped make those pieces of the profession feel a little more approachable.

Lucy quickly became involved, joining the chapter’s event planning committee, attending AIAS Grassroots, and building relationships with the student leaders around her. As the previous executive board prepared to graduate, Lucy and fellow member Audrey Huhn saw an opportunity to build on that foundation and stepped forward to serve as Co-Presidents.

As shared by her Co-President and nominator, Audrey Huhn:

“Lucy dedicates countless hours of her time to enhancing the experiences of every student involved. Her leadership is shown through the energy and care she brings to our chapter, making The AIAS more visible, accessible, and inclusive.”

Together, Lucy and Audrey have helped grow the University of Michigan Chapter while creating more ways for students to find their place within it. Their leadership has focused on reaching students across different years and programs, diversifying chapter programming, bringing in professional voices, and creating opportunities for members to become more involved.

For Lucy, that journey has also come full circle. The student who joined The AIAS looking for community and a better understanding of the profession is now helping create those same opportunities for the students coming behind her.

Her willingness to step up, learn along the way, and invest in the people around her reflects what student leadership is all about. As Lucy looks toward another year with The AIAS, we are excited to see how she continues to grow alongside the community she has helped build.
