The AIAS is proud to announce that our annual Grassroots Leadership Conference is happening this year IN-PERSON, in Washington, D.C. from July 28 – July 30, 2022. Join us for this RE-UNION!
This will be our first in-person national conference in over 2 and ½ years and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you all! And prices are much lower than our past in-person years (scroll down for more on that)!
We will also have Leadership Day and the Council of Presidents virtually in early August to ensure accessibility for our members!

WTF is Grassroots and Leadership Day?
Grassroots is our annual leadership conference that focuses on developing our members and their future. This is a conference for you to network, enhance your career, and gear up for the next year at your chapter with the AIAS. You’ll be experiencing the city home to the AIAS National Office, and can explore the complicated layers here that you can apply to any city. First and foremost, this is a celebration and homecoming!
On August 6, we will have Grassroots Leadership Day! Leadership Day started at Grassroots 2021, and we will be continuing it for the second year. This is a day where our Quad Directors, Ambassadors, and Officers offer training on main areas your chapter needs to know, like governance, finance, membership, and more! You will also be able to view the recordings of some sessions from the in-person segment of Grassroots, and we’ll have interactive breaks for you to meet students if you could not attend in July!
Re-Imagined: How is Grassroots going to be different from past years?
Decentralized:
This Grassroots will be focused on what D.C. has to offer. In previous years, our conferences have been held in a hotel meeting center and our members don’t get to enjoy the city as much. We’re changing that to have walking tours, firm tours, and interactive workshops so you get the most out of D.C., and each other!
Interactive:
Past conferences have been amazing and offered great content through sessions led by a lecturer with Q&As, lengthy general sessions, and the occasional networking. In light of the pandemic, where we can host a zoom session and Q&A now with just about anyone in the world, the in-person component of Grassroots 2022 will focus on the interactive. Tours, hands-on workshops, dedicated chapter time, and regional meet-ups will let us students work with and get to know each other. Set the tone for collaboration all year- you may even meet your new best friends!
Breaks:
When in a hotel, we packed everything in with a few minutes in between sessions. While we’ll still bring the content, we’re making sure to include dedicated breaks for rest, food, and chapter interaction- another lesson learned during the pandemic.
Who can attend?:
EVERYONE! ANYONE! All members (and non-members) can join us! This is not just for chapter leaders, (it never was). Come experience Grassroots with us, this is a RE-UNION! We’re applying the fun of FORUM to the spirit of Grassroots, and with the unpredictability of Covid-19 in the winter months, you don’t want to miss in-person celebrations this summer!
