Welcome to the 2024 West Quad Conference – “BLOOM: Emerging Solutions for Urban Sustainability”!

Welcome to Seattle, a vibrant city nestled among sweeping mountain ranges, evergreen forests, and the vast Puget Sound. Seattle’s creative and progressive spirit manifests in its architecture, which pioneers in the realms of climate-responsivity, adaptive reuse, responsible growth, and combating the contemporary housing crisis. Seattle’s architectural journey is a testament to its ability to adapt and innovate, as well as its contextual identity within the Pacific Northwest. Seattle is the only city in the last two decades serving as home to four recipients of the highly coveted AIA Firm Award, and the University of Washington (UW), is a crucible of innovation highly committed to climate change research and decarbonization.

The theme of this conference, BLOOM: Emerging Solutions for Urban Sustainability, encapsulates Seattle’s commitment to green, high-performance architecture in response to the climate crisis. This takes shape in our three keystones: Innovation & Efficiency, Environmental Responsiveness, and Sustainable Urban Growth. We hope to welcome you in Seattle this April, during our breathtaking cherry blossom super-bloom, and delve together into an optimistic perspective on sustainable architecture.
