Know Before You Go

Insider Tips for Getting the Most Out of AIAS FORUM | PNW

In less than two weeks, we will be seeing you in Seattle, WA! We’ve compiled a list of reminders and tips so that YOU are prepared for the most awesome FORUM yet.

1. What to pack

  • Sketchbook
  • Laptop + Charger
  • Camera
  • Business cards
  • Portfolio + Resume: Remember your portfolio for our College & Career Expo.
  • Comfortable Footwear: Most of the tours require a substantial amount of walking – plan ahead.
  • Attire: Please consider a more professional outfit for the Expo and Firm Tours. When in doubt, business casual attire will work for all events. Also, don’t forget to check the weather! Expect rain and lots of it… make sure to pack your rain jacket!

2. Visit us at the registration desk

Stop by the registration desk to check-in, grab your conference bag, and say hi!

Registration Desk Hours:

  • Friday, December 28th — 5:00pm-8:00pm
  • Saturday, December 29th — 7:00am-5:00pm
  • Sunday, December 30th — 8:00am-5:00pm

  • Tuesday: January 1st — 8:00am-5:00pm

3. Book your tour + event tickets

Tickets for tours and events are sold online and onsite. Tickets are limited, so be sure to purchase them sooner rather than later. If you bought your tickets in advance, you can pick them up when you check-in at registration. New tours will be posted in the coming weeks so make sure to circle back and reserve your tickets online.

  • Honor Awards: $20
  • Beaux Arts Ball (Guest): $50

4. Getting around Seattle

Whether you are walking, biking, or taking transit, check out these resources to help you get around Seattle during your stay.

5. What to expect onsite

This year, each day is categorized as a different “track” and tracks do not need to be selected ahead of time.

  • General Session: Open to all attendees
  • Educational Sessions: Seating is first come, first serve
  • Tours: Tickets must be purchased in advance either online or onsite (availability limited)

Need a place to hang between sessions? Head over to the Student Lounge sponsored by AIA. The lounge will be used as a default networking break area in between sessions and during “down times.” When in doubt, head to the student lounge. Also, all tours will meet in the Student Lounge prior to departing.

This year’s Beaux Arts Ball theme is World’s Fair – Emerald City! Dress your best in futuristic, eclectic, emerald and/or silver attire.  Check out the breakdown of what is offered at each night event below:

  • Honor Awards includes (2) drink tickets along with light snacks. Additional drink tickets will be sold at $5/beer and $7/wine or liquor.
  • COP Reception includes (2) drink tickets along with appetizers. Cash bar available.
  • Beaux Arts Ball includes (2) drink tickets along with light snacks. Additional drink tickets will be sold at $5/beer and $7/wine or liquor.
  • Silent Disco will have a cash bar.

6. Be social

The AIAS FORUM Instagram and Facebook pages are great resources for important conference activities and fun. We want to hear about your experience as well! Share with us your favorite parts of FORUM through Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter

Don’t forget to tag @aiasorg and use the following hashtags — #AIASfrm18 #AIASFRM #FRMPNW #FRM18 #forum2k18 #architectureconference #architecturestudents

Also, be sure to use our Snapchat filters at the following events: Honor Awards, Beaux Arts Ball, AIA Fashion Show, and Silent Disco.

7. Request music for Beaux Arts Ball in advance
Ring in the new year right by requesting all of your favorite music ahead of time! Request your songs here.  Also, make sure to bring your identification card to all night events including Silent Disco. You will need it at Silent Disco in order to check-out headphones.
8. Get ready for Roll-Call
This year we are switching up roll-call! Each chapter will have 90 seconds to perform their chapter’s roll-call. This has been done to preserve time during General Session programming. If you have any type of content you would like to project, please be sure to send it in advance to mailbox@aias.org
9. Go to AIA’s Fashion Show
AIA will be hosting a Fashion Show in the Student Lounge from 9:00pm-11:00pm on December 30th. Be sure to sign-up to participate and grab your materials in advance!

10. Attention Chapter Presidents!

Get ready for a jam-packed conference with two Council of President meetings – Sunday, December 30th from 8:30am-11:00am & Tuesday, January 1st from 9:00am-12:00pm.  Prior to arriving, make sure that your chapter is in ‘good standing’ to ensure that you are able to participate in the election process. To find out if your chapter is in ‘good standing’, please email mailbox@aias.org. COP Agenda will be posted to the website earlier next week.

11. Book your hotel

FORUM’s hotel block is still OPEN! Don’t miss out on this affordable rate of $139/night and book today.

12. In case you can’t make it

We get it, things come up! If you are unable to attend, be sure to fill out our Cancellation/Refund Request form prior to January 12th. Keep in mind that there is a $50 administrative fee associated with the refund process.
