Each month, the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) highlights the outstanding dedication and accomplishments of one of its members. The Chapter Leader of the Month can be a Chapter President or any member who has shown tremendous leadership. Congratulations to the March 2016 Chapter Leader of the Month, Harikrishna Patel!

HPatelHarikrishna “Krish” Patel is a 3rd year architecture student at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA where he serves as the AIAS Chapter Treasurer. Krish also served at the AIAS Forum 2015 Volunteer Coordinator where he led a team of more than 20 student volunteers.

AIAS Executive Director Nick Serfass said Krish’s work was instrumental to the success at FORUM. “After coming on board mid-stream as the FORUM SF Volunteer Director, Krish showed an adept ability to assemble a team quickly. He then followed up this effort by efficiently and comprehensively coordinating the effort and systems necessary to execute such a large-scale event,” said Nick. “A substantial part of the success of FORUM SF is due to Krish’s leadership and service to the organization. Krish is an exceptional connector, motivator, and manager. ”

Public Relations Director for the AIAS Chapter, Kathleen Agonoy, said Krish worked hard as the volunteer coordinator for FORUM 2015. “He ensured that everyone experienced the amazing architecture of the city that he is able to relive everyday.”

Krish joined the executive team within his chapter in 2015 and said it has given him the ability to become a leader. “[It] has allowed me to become more independent and grow and prosper as an individual. I feel honored to be part of this organization and enjoy having the privilege to give back to the community through the organization,” said Krish.

Kathleen said Krish is self driven and determined to inspire others to join AIAS. “I believe that over the past year, Harikrishna has grown into an amazing, reliable, enthusiastic leader he is today,” said Kathleen.

Krish was recently elected to serve as Vice President of his chapter for the 2016-17 school year. After graduation he would like to attend graduate school for urban planning and become a licensed architect.

“I hope to continue and pass on the torch of encouragement to the younger students just as it was given to me,” said Krish.  “Helping others is second nature to me so I am always glad to help other when it is within my capabilities. I believe the growth of people is in actuality the growth of individuals so helping others is in fact helping me grow as well.”
