Each month, the AIAS highlights the outstanding dedication and accomplishments of one of its members. The Chapter Leader of the Month can be a Chapter President or any member who has shown tremendous leadership.

Kitty Graham, a junior pursuing a joint major in Philosophy and Religion with a minor in Architectural Studies at Emory University is our October Chapter Leader of the Month. Kitty grew up in Atlanta and New York City.

Kitty started the chapter in February 2022 because she wanted to create a space for Emory students to connect with the Atlanta architecture community regardless of their career aspirations. She grew up in a family that valued art and design, so she has always understood how artistic creativity and curiosity can be helpful in all aspects fo lide. She states that “although we don’t have an architecture school we do have an incredible Art History Department, so Emory felt like a unique place to start an AIAS chapter. It has been so wonderful to see students who are interested in careers in medicine, law, business, and more take an interest in architecture.”

In her first semester at Emory, she was able to take a class called “Understanding Architecture” with Dr. Chirstina Crawford. She enjoyed the class so much that she decided to declare a minor in Architectural Studies. In reflecting on her chapter and time in the AIAS, Kitty says “This chapter wouldn’t be possible without Dr. Crawford!  Since starting the AIAS chapter I have been able to attend and volunteer at the South Quad Conference thanks to South Quad Director, Colt Brock. The AIAS community has been so supportive and helpful throughout this entire process.”
