Each month, the AIAS highlights the outstanding dedication and accomplishments of one of its members. The Chapter Leader of the Month can be a Chapter President or any member who has shown tremendous leadership.

Fiona He is a High School senior passionate about pursuing Architecture and Civil Engineering with an interest in environmental issues. As the Staten Island Tech’s Chapter President, she works to provide students with more opportunities and information. Fiona has also achieved several certifications in OSHA, AutoCAD, and Revit. When reflecting on her time starting the chapter at Staten Island High school she says,” The experience of starting the first AIAS chapter at Staten Island Technical High School has been a highlight of my high school career. As an individual who’s passionate about Environmental Science in Civil Engineering and Architecture, I felt that the school needed more resources. I knew that by taking action in creating this chapter, students could have more opportunities and learn more information about the field. Serving this chapter along with my board members from the 2022- 2023 school year and the following 2024 terms, I can’t wait to plan more events. Connecting with other chapters around the world has been extremely helpful. The members from Marywood University have been so supportive of our early stages of forming the chapter. A family-like community allows for an immense amount of support.”

Fiona says that she is” proud to have had the opportunity for our chapter to tour Stantec Engineering. Our members were able to gain real-life advice from professionals in the field. All of us were super excited to see what a day in the life of an Architect and Engineer looks like. The trip was informative and allowed us to understand the various paths to these careers. We had a wonderful time while they shared presentations on their recent projects. This following year I hope to incorporate more trips like these for the members of my chapter. As I continue to grow in my career path, I know that the AIAS community has my back. I’m excited for the new year to come!”

Her nominator, Vice President Chloe Chen, says that “Fiona saw that the peers in our school have shown a great interest in Architecture and Engineering just like her, so we wanted to take action.”

WHAT BENJAMIN MOORE® COLOR BEST REPRESENTS YOUR PERSONALITY AND WHY?

Fiona’s color of choice is Potpourri Green (2029-50). She chose this color because it “is a down-to-earth tone. The hint of yellow with green represents excitement with calmness to me.”
