Earth Day 2022: Sketch Contest

Overview

ConstructConnect is holding a sketch contest that’s open exclusively to members of the AIAS. We’re asking for AIAS members to share sketches that represent the architect’s commitment to planet earth. This competition is open to all years and skill sets. Show off your sketching skills by submitting a hand-drawn sketch that best represents the 2022 Earth Day Theme: Invest In Our Planet.

Earth Day takes place once a year, but attention to our planet is a core part of the architect’s responsibility. The AIA states that “architects play a crucial role in mitigating and adapting to climate change through sustainable and resilient design.” Find out more about earth day here from the organization that started it in 1970.

How to Enter

1. 1. Prepare a hand-drawn sketch that best represents the 2022 Earth Day Theme: Invest In Our Planet.
   2. Submit a photograph of your sketch by one of these methods:

   3. Only one entry is allowed per person. No group or team entries, please. You may submit existing work as long as it conforms with the entry requirements.
   4. A panel of judges will review the entries and determine the winners. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2022.

Prizes

Contest judges will select three prize winners that best represent the 2022 Earth Day Theme: Invest In Our Planet. Winners for 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place receive the following Amazon gift card prize:

ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These terms and conditions govern the participation in the ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest as operated by ConstructConnect (from now on referred to as the “Organizer”). We recommend the reading, with maximum care, of each item of the terms and conditions below. Full acceptance of each item is a requirement of your entry and participation in The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest.

ENTRY CONDITIONS

All Sketch Contest entries must be created by hand on paper using pen or pencil.

One entry per person. Open to the student members of the AIAS.

Entries must be received by one of these methods with your name, address, email, and telephone number:

Submissions will be open starting March 25, 2022, at 12:01 a.m. ET and will close on April 18, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

SELECTION OF WORKS

A panel of judges will select the prize winners. Winners will be announced on April 22, 2022.

The notification to winners will be made individually by the Organizer via the email address the entry was submitted from.

THE ENTRANT’S RESPONSIBILITY

The entrant warrants and represents the following:

• The entrant is the sole owner, creator, and author of each entry, and the entry is original artwork.
• The entrant has the right and full authority to make the entry available to The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest.

Further, the entry should not include:

• trademarks owned by third parties.
• copyright materials owned by third parties.
• names, likenesses, voices, or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead.
• material for which the entrant has not purchased or secured the rights to use, such as stock images.
• material that contains any commercial content that promotes any product or service unless the appropriate written consent from the relevant rights owners has been received.
• material that could contain any infringing, threatening, insensitive, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, defamatory, pornographic, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, or profane content.
• material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise offend against any other law.
• material which has been substantially derived from an existing artwork and thus can be perceived as infringing on the intellectual property rights of the creator of that artwork without the consent of that creator or artist. In the event any such consent either has not been obtained and/or is not provided to the Organizer, the Organizer has the absolute right to remove the entry. If there is an artistic reason for including material of this sort, please make this clear in the details of how the work was created.

The entrant shall fully indemnify and hold the Organizer harmless against any and all third-party claims, demands, loss, damages, liability, and costs (including reasonable legal expenses) that the Organizer suffers or incurs as a result of, or in connection with, any breach by the entrant of the warranties above. In such circumstances, the works subject to any third-party claim or demand will be suspended from the competition pending a final decision of such claim.

The Organizer reserves the right and without any liability to the entrant to remove any entries that it considers do not comply with these terms or are in conflict or otherwise contradict any applicable laws or where the Organizer considers, in its sole discretion that the entrant may have engaged in any improper conduct which may affect the reputation and standing of The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest or where the Organizer has any other concerns either about the entrant or the entrant’s work.

By entering the competition, the entrant agrees and acknowledges that the Organizer is permitted to receive the entrant’s registration and personal data. All personal information will be used by the Organizer in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

By entering the competition, the entrant warrants that their entry complies with these terms and conditions, that the entrant has read and understood the Privacy Policy and indemnifies the Organizer for any breach of this warranty.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

By entering the competition, entrants do not transfer or surrender the copyright or other intellectual property rights in their work. All entrants grant royalty-free worldwide rights to the Organizer, to reproduce, distribute, display reproductions, whether in whole or part, in any media now or hereafter known, and unrestricted rights to use all statements made in connection with the competition and in a way that the Organizer considers suitable, without any liability for the Organizer.

Entrants agree that personal data, especially name and address, may be processed, shared, and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the competition and any other purposes outlined in these Terms and Conditions.

Winning and finalists’ works may be used in marketing and promotion activities associated with the Organizer from time to time.

JUDGING AND DETERMINATIONS

The Organizers’ Liability: The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest does not exclude or limit its liability for personal injury or death caused by its negligence or for fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability that may not, by law, be limited or excluded. The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest accepts no liability in relation to an entrant’s participation (or inability to participate), including without limitation any use made by a winner of (or inability to use) the Prize, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

If the Sketch Contest cannot be executed at all or as planned and the failure or delay is caused by circumstances beyond The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest’s reasonable control, including, technical problems, earthquake, severe weather and other acts of God, riot, sanctions, embargoes, war, strike, failure of transportation and/or public telecommunication networks, The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest shall not incur any liability and no payment or prize of any kind will be awarded.

The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest’s determination and decision on all matters will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Any dispute or situation not covered by these Terms and Conditions will be resolved by The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest’s management in a manner it deems to be the fairest to all concerned and, subject to the following section, that the decision will be binding on all entrants.

APPLICABLE LAWS AND JURISDICTION

Disputes: Except where prohibited, entrant agrees that: (1) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Sketch Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio or the appropriate Ohio State Court located in Hamilton County, Ohio; (2) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Sketch Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (3) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Sketch Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of Ohio without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of Ohio or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of Ohio.

DATA PROTECTION

By entering The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest, an entrant agrees to the personal information in their submission being processed by the Organizer for the purposes of administration of The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest.

WINNERS’ DETAILS

The judging panel’s decision is final, private, and not subject to any queries or public investigations. The Organizers will not enter into any correspondence regarding the jury panel decisions. By submitting an entry, the participants agree with the articles of these Terms and Conditions, as well as with the use of their names, images, voices, and photos for publicizing the selection’s result, besides their use in advertising, exhibitions, without any additional liability for the Organizer, or third parties indicated by it, during the legal period of copyright protection. All doubts and/or questions derived from the present selection process will be resolved by the Organizer. There will be no resource of any type behind the Organizer’s decisions.

GENERAL

The Organizer assumes no responsibility for any incorrect, inaccurate, or incomplete information, whether caused by user error or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest, and the Organizer assumes no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connections, corrupt data transmissions, other problems or technical malfunctions with regard to The ConstructConnect Earth Day 2022 Sketch Contest. The Organizer assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, corruption, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of the entry. If for any reason an entry cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, or technical failures, the Organizer assumes no responsibility.
