NCARB CEO Michael Armstrong was awarded the American Institute of Architecture Students’ (AIAS) highest honor, the Presidential Citation, at the organization’s Grassroots Leadership Conference. Presented by 2015-2016 AIAS National President Danielle Mitchell, Assoc. AIA, the award honored Armstrong for his “dedication to the mission of the AIAS and its programs.”

“Michael Armstrong has served as an inspiration to the architectural community through his commitment to the value of mentorship and the power of student-led design,” said Mitchell. “Under his leadership, the relationship between the AIAS and NCARB has strengthened to new heights.”

In June, NCARB announced a new partnership with the AIAS that aims to improve accessible design in underserved communities. During the 2016-2017 school year, NCARB will support the AIAS and its Freedom by Design program by providing local chapters with grants for building materials, as well as mentorship opportunities with members of state licensing boards and local architecture firms.

NCARB has also sponsored a number of AIAS initiatives over the years, including annual conferences, career fairs, and the student architect licensing advisor program.
