Washington, DC – July 31, 2018 – The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) is excited to announce the release of its Strategic Plan. The Board of Directors approved the Strategic Plan on July 18, 2018.

The 2018 Strategic Plan is a multi-year plan meant to guide the AIAS in its long-term direction. The Plan is intended to give direction to the Board of Directors as it steers the work of the organization. It helps ensure that the decisions of the board are strategically aligned to broad goals of the organization’s future. The Plan also acts as a reference to the staff in the operation of AIAS programs and activities.

The Strategic Plan was developed by general members serving on the Governance Committee, with input from the Board of Directors. Over the 2017-2018 academic year, the Governance Committee cultivated ideas from the board—combining its own input—to define goals and strategies.

The development and approval of the Strategic Plan cap three-years of redefining how the AIAS defines its work, values, and future. In 2015-2016, the Governance Committee led the creation of a new mission statement, which defined what the AIAS does. In 2016-2017, a new vision statement and six values statements were created, formally defining why the AIAS performs its mission. The 2017-2018 development of the Strategic Plan defines how the board can drive the AIAS towards the fulfillment of its vision.
