Washington, DC – July 18, 2016 – The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) welcomes the hiring of 2015-2016 AIAS Vice President Joel Pominville, Assoc. AIA, as Executive Director of AIA New Orleans and the New Orleans Architecture Foundation (NOAF). Currently, Pominville is wrapping up his term with the AIAS in Washington, D.C.

Pominville graduated from the Clemson University School of Architecture and College of Business and Behavioral Science in 2014 and previously served as the AIAS South Quad Director for the 2014-2015 school year. Over the last six years, he has been instrumental in the local and national development of Freedom by Design, the AIAS’ community design-build program, as well as other AIAS initiatives and programming.

“We are always ecstatic about the extraordinary achievements of AIAS officers,” said AIAS Executive Director Nick Serfass. “Joel is the perfect fit for this role and will surely aim to elevate his new community to greater heights. He will bring an energy, enthusiasm, and unparalleled ambition to the goals and mission of AIA New Orleans.”

Starting August 15, Pominville will be responsible for organizational support of Board initiatives, programs and activities of AIA New Orleans and NOAF, which focuses on enhancing public appreciation of architecture and design as vital community assets that enrich the quality of life in New Orleans.

“I am extremely honored to step into this position of leadership at AIA New Orleans and with the NOAF. I owe so much to the AIAS for helping me grow as a leader and advocate as well as teaching me to have clear vision and empathy in every endeavor,” said Pominville. “My experiences at Clemson and within the five collaterals have, and continue, to aid my growth as an advocate for the impact architecture and design can have in our communities.”

During Pominville’s time at the AIAS he served as the Student Director on the Board of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA), AIAS Representative on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards’ (NCARB) Internship Advisory Committee, AIAS Liaison on the AIA National Associates Committee and Student Team Member on two substantial equivalency visits for the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) in Bahrain and Cyprus.
