Thursday, June 10- Saturday June 12, 2021 from 3:00 pm-7:00pm (GMT +3).
Despite the richness of its past and the plethora of its possibilities, Beirut veils its traces and tricks its visitors. Scars and scabs left right and center, morph a peculiar identity of the city. Nonetheless, the collective memory remains far from achieved, and what is collective is nothing but amnesia. “Beirut: The City In Violence” aims at speculating upon the built and unbuilt fabric of Beirut through its political and social manifestations. It projects the future of reconstruction whilst delving deeper into the political fabric of the city. In a unique attempt, “Beirut: The City In Violence” generates a discussion in both vertical and horizontal interactions, where professionals, professors and students exchange ideas and proposals for the future of our city.
The virtual event (on Webex) will feature three keynote speakers, sharing their knowledge of and experience in the city. It will include presentations from eight local universities, highlighting student work from the past year. It will also introduce three firm tours, giving us a closer look at the work being done in Beirut amidst the unfolding crises. Opening and concluding remarks will be shared by AIAS LAU’s chapter President.
