December 11, 2018

It’s December…do you know what that means??? IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN TO FORUM 2018!!!

We at AIAS hope that all of your finals are going as well as they can and that you are all remembering to take time for yourselves despite all of the stress you are under! Please take some time to read the following important information regarding our upcoming FORUM Conference in Seattle and, more specifically, the AIAS Governance that will be taking place there.

As AIAS members, you all play a SIGNIFICANT role in the governance of our organization. At the Council of Presidents (CoP) Meetings at FORUM, each chapter has the opportunity to use YOUR collective voice to speak on and vote on important initiatives that will greatly affect the trajectory of the AIAS. One representative from each Chapter may serve as your Chapter’s “Delegate” at the CoP Meetings, and that Delegate’s active involvement in the general business, new discussions, and the election of the next Board of Directors will cast a mark upon the AIAS forever. Be sure to read through the Delegate Guide prior to FORUM to familiarize yourself with how the meeting is run and how you can maximize your voice.

Your Chapter Delegate is, by default, the Chapter President. If your Chapter President is not attending FORUM, they can appoint another member of your Chapter as the Delegate by contacting our lovely Vice President, Brigid Callaghan, at vicepresident@aias.org. If no member of your Chapter is attending FORUM, you can appoint a proxy Chapter to cast your Chapter’s vote, provided you are a Chapter In Good Standing. Don’t forget that you can still register for FORUM at www.aias.org/pnw!!

IN OTHER NEWS, Madame President Rosen received ZERO RESOLUTIONS for our FORUM Council of Presidents Meeting. This means that she received no motions for new business from AIAS members or Chapters. We at AIAS National are dedicated to providing opportunities for you all to speak UP and speak LOUD ,so there will be ONE HOUR of time within the CoP meeting dedicated to Resolutions from the Floor. There is always room for improvement in the AIAS, and President Rosen urges you all to confer with your fellow AIAS members about ways to push our organization to new heights. We encourage you to make the most of your voice in this arena and make a motion during that portion of the meeting if you have something that you believe could result in an impactful discussion and/or initiative.

If you and/or your chapter decide to make a resolution from the floor, you are welcome to run it by President Rosen for feedback on concept/verbiage by emailing her at president@aias.org!

Okay, but how do you REALLY maximize your voice at the FORUM CoP Meeting? You read through the CoP Agenda of course! You can find the FORUM 2018 CoP Agenda here. Please download the pdf and then scroll through to familiarize yourself with the topics of discussion prior to FORUM. By downloading the pdf, you should be able to hover over the items listed under “Materials” on most of the agenda items and click on them – those with links will connect you to pdf content via google drive.

Keep #kickingAIAS, leaders! We can’t wait to see you in just a few short weeks, and #GetDowntoBusiness.
