Washington, DC  – January 5, 2018 – Chapter leaders of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) have cast their ballots for the next Board of Directors. During the annual FORUM conference, which took place in Austin, Texas from December 29, 2017 – January 1, 2018, the Council of Presidents elected the new incoming board of directors for the organization.

2018-2019 AIAS Board of Directors

President-elect Amy Rosen will serve as the organization’s 62nd President. “We are so excited to make some change happen and to bring your voices to the forefront of the profession – we have a lot of work to do and we are ready to do it.”

Rosen and Vice President-elect Brigid Callaghan addressed attendees at the conference. Callaghan told the audience, “Amy and I are looking forward to serving the members of AIAS and utilizing their voices for the betterment of leadership, design, and service among architecture students. The directors and liaisons working alongside us are incredible. We could not be more grateful nor excited for the year ahead!”

Those elected, including Quad Directors, will serve a one-year term on the AIAS Board of Directors. During this time the President and Vice President relocate to the national office in Washington, D.C. and work as full-time employees of the AIAS.

The AIAS has also appointed Dr. Ikhlas Sabouni to serve as the next ACSA Liaison. Dr. Sabouni is the Dean of the School of Architecture at Prairie View A&M University and is an ACSA Distinguished Professor. She is a vocal advocate for students and has been an effective leader at Prairie View A&M University. She will serve a three-year term (2018-2021) after Carmina Sánchez-del-Valle ends her term at the 2018 AIAS Grassroots Leadership Conference.

  • AIA Liaison (2017-2020): Timothy Hawk, FAIA – Columbus, OH
  • ACSA Liaison (2018-2021): Dr. Ikhlas Sabouni – Houston, TX

The newly elected board officially begins their duties on the 1st of July and will be sworn in during Grassroots 2018. In the six-month lead up to commencing their terms, the board-elect will work closely with their predecessors to become familiar with their role on the board, including a three-day orientation concurrent with the Spring Board of Directors Meeting.
